Rockefeller Archive Center

Research Stipend Program 2026
Opens Aug 15 2025 12:01 AM (EST)
Deadline Nov 7 2025 11:59 PM (EST)
$500.00 to $5,000.00
Description

The Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) research stipend program provides individual awardees (not institutions) up to $5,000 for reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses connected to conducting research at the RAC. Please note that it cannot be used for tuition, research at other archival repositories, or other non-RAC-related travel.

Anyone may apply for a research stipend, from any country of origin or residence, field or discipline, and at any level of professional experience.

Applications are evaluated by an independent committee that considers the applicant’s project, the relevance of archival materials at the RAC, and the amount of time needed to consult these records.

The online application form will ask for information about your proposed research project and how the RAC collections would support it.

Applicants should be prepared to

  • write a brief narrative describing their research project, including a description of how research at the RAC will benefit their project
  • explain the significance of the project to current scholarship and its contribution to existing understandings of the proposed topic
  • provide a list as well as a narrative description of specific materials they plan to consult at the RAC
  • provide the name and email address of one to two references who will provide a recommendation

Please be aware when working in our online catalog, DIMES, that file names do not fully explain all that the records hold. And there may be additional records pertinent to your project. Successful applicants, especially first-time visitors to the RAC, have benefited from consulting with RAC archivists during the preparation of their proposals. We encourage you to contact our archivists in advance of submission by emailing archive@rockarch.org.
